K-Pop’s Very Own Santa Claus
Hey everyone! Hope you all had a great holiday season. To kick off the New Year, I’ve got some really heartwarming news for you from Seoul. You all know and love IU, right? The singer with the angelic voice and amazing acting skills? Well, she just proved once again she’s a literal angel by donating 200 million won (around $140,000) to various charities to wrap up the year 2025.
This isn’t just a random act of kindness; it’s a tradition for her. IU consistently donates on meaningful dates like her debut anniversary, birthday, and at the end of the year, making her one of the most philanthropic celebrities in Korea.
Where is the Money Going?
The donation was made under the name ‘IUaena,’ which is a super cute combination of her name (IU) and her official fan club’s name (Uaena). It shows how much she values her fans and involves them in her good deeds.
The 200 million won was split evenly, with 50 million won each going to four different organizations. These charities support a wide range of people in need, including single mothers and their families, children who are aging out of institutional care and need help starting their adult lives, people with hearing impairments who need surgeries or hearing aids, and low-income elderly people who are at risk of skipping meals during the cold winter.
A Year of Giving
This year-end donation is the latest in a long string of charitable acts from IU throughout 2025. With this final contribution, her total donations for the year reached an incredible 950 million won (over $700,000)!
Just to give you an idea, back in March, she donated 200 million won for wildfire relief. On Children’s Day in May, she gave 150 million won for kids and teens. She also made 200 million won donations on both her birthday and her debut anniversary to help vulnerable communities. She’s truly been spreading her positive influence all year long.
