A Nation’s Actor Says Goodbye

If you can imagine someone with the respect and love of Tom Hanks in America, that’s who he was to us here in Korea. He was called the “Nation’s Actor” and was a huge part of Korean cinema for over 60 years, starting as a child actor. On January 5th, he passed away after a brave fight against blood cancer.
It feels like we’ve lost a family member, and the entire film industry is in mourning.
A Son’s Journey Home

As soon as he heard his father’s condition had worsened, he got on a plane and flew straight back to Seoul to be with him in his final moments. He reportedly arrived on January 2nd, just in time to say his goodbyes, which is a small comfort in this sad time.
