That Famous Chef from Netflix? He’s Got a Problem.
Hey guys! If you’ve been binge-watching the intense cooking competition on Netflix, ‘Black and White Chef: Culinary Class War’ (Season 2), you’ve definitely seen the super skilled and confident Korean food master, Lim Sung-geun. He’s amazing, right? Well, his recent fame has unfortunately come with a really weird problem: fake restaurants! So many fans have been asking about his restaurants that he had to make an official announcement on his social media, and the reason is kinda wild.
Restaurants Are Stealing His Face!
So, here’s the tea. Chef Lim revealed that he currently does NOT operate a single restaurant. It turns out, several businesses have been using his name and portrait to promote themselves, tricking people into thinking they can get a taste of his famous cooking there. It got so bad that he actually had to take legal action against a Korean traditional restaurant for using his photo without permission. Even though he won the lawsuit, he said blogs and other online posts still advertise it as his place.

He also clarified his connection to a few other places. He was a model for a galbi (Korean BBQ ribs) franchise for about five years, but that contract is long over. Another chicken restaurant he was involved with? He sold it way back in 2013! But because he’s back in the spotlight, these places have started using his name and face on banners again to ride the hype. He said it was causing a lot of confusion and that it’s heartbreaking to have his identity used like that.
Don’t Worry, Real Food is Coming Soon!
After clearing up all the rumors, Chef Lim shared some super exciting news! He is actually preparing to open his own, brand-new restaurant! He said he’s building it in a city called Paju, and it should be ready to open around February or March next year. He even joked that while he might not be able to show off his flashy knife skills from the show, he promises to satisfy everyone with his “50,000 recipes” and amazing flavors. I’m so excited for him and can’t wait to see what he creates!

The Takeaway
It’s pretty crazy what happens when you get famous, right? People will literally steal your face to make money. For now, just remember that if you see a restaurant with Chef Lim Sung-geun’s picture on it, it’s probably not his. We’ll have to wait until next year to visit his official place in Paju. Let’s all cheer for him and his new restaurant venture!
