A Funeral Unlike Any Other
Hey guys! So, something pretty intense and emotional just happened in the Korean entertainment world. You might know the hilarious comedian Jo Se-ho, famous for his quick wit and being a staple on shows like “You Quiz on the Block.” Well, he recently appeared on a Netflix show called ‘Dora-iver: Dorai Deconstruction Show’ and did something completely unexpected: he attended his own fake funeral. The concept was for the ‘pro absentee,’ a nickname he has for playfully missing events, to attend the one event he could never actually go to—his own memorial.
A Letter From the Heart
What started as a quirky, perhaps even funny, concept quickly turned into a total tearjerker. The highlight of the mock funeral was the reading of a virtual last will and testament that Jo Se-ho had written. Fellow entertainer Hong Jin-kyung read the letter, and as she did, the mood in the room completely shifted. Jo Se-ho’s heartfelt and surprisingly vulnerable words caught everyone off guard. He shared his deepest feelings, looking back on his life and expressing gratitude to those who supported him when he felt lost and his self-esteem was at rock bottom.
A Request for His Best Friend
In the letter, Jo Se-ho made two particularly moving requests. First, he asked his friends to please look after his wife, who he would be leaving behind. But the part that really highlighted his close friendship was his message to the show’s producers. He cheekily but sweetly asked that his empty spot on the show be given to his best friend, comedian Nam Chang-hee. For those who don’t know, Jo Se-ho and Nam Chang-hee are a well-known duo in the industry, famous for their super tight bond.
Why He Did It
After the letter was read, a visibly emotional Jo Se-ho explained why he wrote it. He said he wanted to take the opportunity to seriously reflect on his life and the path he’s walked so far. He mentioned that he didn’t want to make it funny but instead wanted to be completely sincere. The result was a powerful and incredibly touching moment that showed a side of the cheerful comedian that people rarely get to see, leaving his friends and the audience crying along with him.
