Famous Korean Mukbang Star in Hot Water Over “Deadly” Diet Pills

Hey everyone! Some really shocking news has been unfolding here in Korea involving one of the country’s most famous and loved mukbang YouTubers, Haetnim, whose name ironically means “small mouth.” It’s a pretty serious and complicated story, so let’s break down what’s happening.

The “Injection Auntie” Scandal

This all started with a scandal surrounding a woman nicknamed “Jusa Imo” (주사 이모), which basically means “Injection Auntie.” She’s not a licensed doctor but was allegedly giving IV drips and other treatments illegally to celebrities in their homes. The controversy first blew up around famous comedian Park Na-rae, but soon Haetnim’s name was also connected to her. Haetnim quickly released a statement apologizing, explaining that she met the woman at a real clinic in Gangnam and truly believed she was a doctor. She admitted she should have been more careful and announced she would be halting all of her activities and leaving the shows she’s on, like the popular variety show “Amazing Saturday.”

From IV Drips to Dangerous Diet Pills

The situation took a much darker turn when reports surfaced that Haetnim had received diet pills from this same “Injection Auntie.” A media outlet even released text messages that allegedly show the woman discussing Haetnim’s diet pill dosage. This was especially shocking to fans, as Haetnim has a ‘mukbang’ channel where she eats large amounts of food and had previously talked about managing her weight through exercise. While Haetnim’s team denied the diet pill and IV drip allegations, the news had already spread like wildfire.

A Pharmacist’s Chilling Warning

This is where things got really scary. A practicing pharmacist, Park Ji-in, posted a video on his YouTube channel analyzing the alleged diet pills. He said he immediately recognized the combination of drugs and warned people not to take them under any circumstances. He explained the pills are a dangerous cocktail including Phentermine, an appetite suppressant commonly known as “Nabiyak” (나비약, or butterfly drug) in Korea. He stated this drug is a psychotropic substance, basically an amphetamine derivative similar to methamphetamine, and is classified as a narcotic. To emphasize the danger, the pharmacist shared a horrifying story from his past where a patient who had been repeatedly prescribed a similar drug cocktail suddenly passed away, leading to a police investigation.

What Happens Now?

Following all this, Haetnim has been officially reported to the police for potentially violating the Medical Service Act and the Narcotics Control Act. The public reaction has been a mix of shock and disappointment. Many fans feel betrayed, while others are just really concerned about the dangers of these extreme diet drugs that seem to be circulating. It’s a huge mess and a really sad situation for a YouTuber who was so well-loved. We’ll have to wait and see how the investigation unfolds, but for now, Haetnim is completely silent and has stopped all her activities.
