What Happened?
On January 1st, 2026, former AOA member Kwon Mina shared a very troubling message on her Instagram starting with the words, “Goodbye. And I’m sorry.” In the long post, she expressed deep emotional distress and talked about feeling wronged by a series of past events. This understandably caused huge concern. About two hours later, she posted again, revealing that she had attempted to take her own life but was rescued just in time. She described losing consciousness and being woken up by someone shaking her.

The Context: A History of Bullying Allegations
For those who might not know the backstory, this isn’t the first time Mina has been in the headlines for her struggles. She left AOA back in 2019 and later revealed that she had been severely bullied for about a decade by the group’s leader at the time, Jimin. These allegations sent shockwaves through the K-Pop community and ultimately led to Jimin leaving the group and retiring from the entertainment industry. Mina has been very open about the deep trauma this caused, which she says led to previous suicide attempts.
“Did I Ruin AOA?”
In her recent post, Mina addressed the criticism she’s received from some people. She wrote, “Everyone has things to say to me. That I ruined the group. It’s true.” This line is heartbreaking, as it shows how much the online hate and public pressure have been weighing on her. Her posts also mentioned other personal traumas, including being a victim of sexual assault and the frustrations of a legal battle that hasn’t brought her full justice. It’s a devastating look into the immense pain she’s been enduring.

Support and Legal Action
Thankfully, Mina was rescued and is safe for now. Following the incident, her former agency, Moden Berry Korea, even though their contract recently ended, announced they would be taking strong legal action against malicious commenters and those spreading false rumors online. They stated that the constant online attacks have caused severe mental distress for Mina and that they will not be lenient. It’s a small bit of good news in a very sad situation. Here’s hoping Mina gets all the help and support she needs to heal.
