Major YouTuber Faces Backlash Over Illegal Medical Treatments
Hey guys, some pretty shocking news has hit the Korean YouTube scene. One of the biggest mukbang creators, ‘Ip-jjal-beun-haet-nim’ (입짧은햇님), which translates to ‘Haetnim with the Short Mouth’ (a funny way of saying she eats a lot!), is facing a huge scandal. Haetnim, whose real name is Kim Mikyung, is super famous here and even appears on popular TV shows like ‘Amazing Saturday’ with SHINee’s Key and comedian Park Na-rae.
But recently, she got tangled up in a controversy involving a woman known as ‘Jusa-imo’ (주사이모), which literally means ‘Injection Auntie’. This woman is accused of providing illegal medical treatments, like IV drips and prescription drugs, at celebrities’ homes without a proper medical license.
What Exactly Happened?
The whole thing blew up when it was revealed that several celebrities, including Haetnim, were clients of this ‘Injection Auntie’. Haetnim admitted that the woman had come to her house to give her treatments, like IV drips, on days she was too busy to go to a clinic. She explained that she was introduced to ‘Jusa-imo’ at a real clinic in Gangnam and believed she was a licensed doctor.
However, the problem is that in Korea, most medical procedures must be done inside a registered medical facility. On top of that, there are allegations that the treatments involved controlled substances, possibly even diet pills that are classified as narcotics, which require a strict prescription. The situation got serious enough that a police complaint was filed against Haetnim and her manager for violating medical and drug laws.
The Fallout: Subscribers Flee
The reaction from the public was swift and harsh. As soon as the news broke, Haetnim’s YouTube channel, which boasted around 1.76 million subscribers, started bleeding followers. As of today, December 22nd, her subscriber count has dropped to about 1.72 million. That’s a loss of roughly 40,000 subscribers in just a few days! It’s a massive hit for a creator of her size and shows just how seriously the Korean public takes scandals like this.
Haetnim’s Apology and Hiatus
Facing the immense backlash, Haetnim posted an apology on her YouTube channel. She said she was careless and failed to be more cautious, and that she is deeply reflecting on her actions. She announced that she would be stepping down from all her TV programs and halting all her activities, including her YouTube channel, to take responsibility. The scandal has also affected comedian Park Na-rae and SHINee’s Key, who were also linked to the ‘Injection Auntie’ and have similarly paused their activities.
It’s a really unfortunate situation for one of the top mukbangers in the country. Her fans are obviously very disappointed, and it’s a stark reminder of how quickly a public image can be damaged here in Korea. We’ll have to wait and see how the police investigation unfolds.
